Loved the wimsy of the original setting and characters but soon turned into a court dynamics drama that I just found really long and tiring.
The main character is made to wade thought endless shit in the journey that is meant to strengthen her in Resolve and character and better explain the working is the world. But just seems like chapters of filler to get the next book workout much pay off.
Will not bother with the next in the series

This was also a company book club pick, and I’m interested to hear what others thought about it. An interesting discussion to be had, for sure!

The world is fantastic, I will say. It reminds me of a cross between Studio Ghibli and Bridgerton.
While I’m not completely put off from the series, it’ll be awhile before I decide if I want to continue with Ophelia’s story.

I warmed up to Ophelia and Thorn as the book progressed. I initially thought they were shallow and cliche. But after seeing the experiences and societal influences that shaped them I grew to appreciate them.
The plot was intriguing, Ophelia is a fish out of water. You don't know who Ophelia can actually trust and this creates a natural tension between characters. I'll definitely continue the series!
