This book got me out of a reading slump I wasn’t even aware I was in, but that doesn’t mean it was good.

There’s a point where you find out a character has been raped, and their partner internally remarks on how attractive they look after losing a bunch of weight due to the trauma they’ve been experiencing. It was incredibly insensitive and distasteful, to say the least.

I also really didn’t appreciate that the author has zero skill when attempting to moralize about issues, so it comes off as if you’re being finger wagged at by an after school special rather than it being something the characters actually feel and believe themselves.

This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed the writing style. But sadly because I read so many thrillers I found that it was predictable and not super original. I enjoy anything with toxic friendships and drama. So this did not disappoint in that aspect. I will definitely pick up more from this author in the future.

Synopsis: There are two parallel stories in the book. One is about toxic female friendships with one new girl infiltrates in an existing female group and causing havoc for our main character Jane. The other story is about a girl entering Jane's husband's life.

This book was not put-downable and fast-paced. I read huge chunks whenever I sat to read which has been quite rare for me.
The story isn't very suspenseful. You know from the get-go what's happening. You just don't know why. Also, there's a twist by 70% in the book which I guessed very early on. I'm not bummed about it.
I love the representation of the societal expectations from a couple to become parents, miscarriage, infertility and what the couple goes through when they desire to be parents but can't be one.

This book is centered around Jane and a group of friends. Jane gets frustrated when Sophie introduces a new friend into the group. The new friend starts to push her out of the group and starts putting everyone against her. Her husband is also dealing with his own problems and the work load and both are struggling with the fact they are unable to get pregnant.

It's a quick read with a few surprises thrown in there, it keeps you wanting more as you go. It was a little frustrating to see that Jane didn't want to say how she felt to her friends since she saw them as her family. But over all I was happy with how the book ended and I loved the fact that Jane was able to stand up for herself at the very end.

Overall a fun read and it definitely got me out of a reading slump! Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this ARC in exchange for honest review.

Trigger warning: Abuse, Gaslighting, Rape

I'm really glad I got a chance to read this book. The baby shower was a very dark, fun, crazy and toxic story about non-romantic love and also a very different take on abuse. I was sceptical when I started reading the book. But when I realised what the story was actually about, I just started loving the book. The main theme of the book was that even when there are fall outs in non-romantic relationships such as friendships, it hurts just the same as a romantic one.

The actual plot twists in the end of the book was brilliant and was very well thought out. It was not unrealistic and far fetched. The book was fast paced and it had me turning pages pretty fast. There was so much trauma in this book. So it's definitely not for everyone. The main character, Jane had Early Menopausal syndrome and she couldn't have children. She ran a hippy cafe and her husband Frankie had his own plumbing business.

Her best friend Sophie was a rich woman with a big heart. Their gang of 4 including Kath and Hillls met at their Runners club and Friday night drinks. Suddenly, one Friday night, Sophie brings her new friend Lexie to the bar and everything turns sour from there. Lexie was a toxic person who was super manipulative and only Jane could feel that. Frankie on the other hand was also going through some traumatic issues.

The story taught me a lot about the different types of abuse and PTSD. It was a must read thriller for me. If you are okay with the triggers, you should definitely check it out.
