Which film have you watched most often?
I’ve introduced a new points system for my reads - right now it’s all about the distraction value. Top marks for any book that stops me thinking about the news headlines!
The Baby Shower gets top marks for distraction! The film I have watched most is Bridesmaids …it makes me laugh every time and I enjoy the whole dynamic between Annie, Lilian and Helen and to start with The Baby Shower had similar vibes. A close group of friends is threatened by a new arrival - she’s only been here five minutes but already she’s a bestie and she’s throwing the most extravagant baby shower for Sophie. Jane has had a terrible childhood, is married to the love of her life but they can’t conceive and now she’s watching her best friend succumb to the wiles of Lexie..is it only her best friend she will lose?
Oh my goodness, I have rarely hated a character so much ..Lexie got completely under my skin and she makes Helen look a total lightweight! From the start it’s absolutely clear she doesn’t like Jane - and I really did! - and she’s clearly plotting. I couldn’t believe the vacuousness of Sophie - why wasn’t she seeing behind the act!
I loved the relationship between Frankie and Jane - it was so down to earth and supportive and loving. They are navigating themselves through a world of baby showers and babies - a world that has been denied them…
I had to know what Sophie was up to, I had to know Jane and Frankie would be ok ..wouldn’t they? Highly recommend for total distraction!
With many thanks to Netgalley and Bookoutre for a digital copy of this book.

***I voluntarily read and reviewed an early copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this opportunity.
I will include a few content warnings at the end of the review in case anyone would like to go into this book completely blind and not see them.
Despite seeing the big twist in this thriller very early, I still enjoyed the reading experience. If you have ever had a close friend become friends with someone else and seem to be getting very close to that new person, you will relate to the main character in this book. Jane tries her best to be cordial to her friend, Sophie’s, new friend but everything she does seems to backfire on her.
When it seems like newcomer, Lexie, isn’t the person everyone thinks she is, Jane is put in a tough spot. Does she try to talk to Sophie about it? Or would that just make her seem like a jealous friend? I think the author handle what Jane is going through really well in this book.
There are also a lot of other conversations this book manages to bring in very naturally that don’t talked about a lot so it was nice seeing characters dealing with those issues.
This book is very British. So for someone who is not super familiar with some of the slang, it was hard for me to get into this book. But once I got into it, it was fine. Just keep that in mind if you are finding some of the conversations between characters strange.
All in all, I would consider this a slightly above average thriller. It isn’t the craziest thing I have ever read. There are several small twists that I did not see coming that kept me entertained while reading and the very short chapters make this book hard to stop reading. I would read other books by this author.
****Content warnings include fertility issues, miscarriage, sexual assault.

Oh wow this book wasn’t just good it was fantastic. I had to go and find a quiet place to gather my thoughts after I’d finished this amazing book. You know when you start a book and after the first chapter you just want to keep on reading, well The Baby Shower is this kind of book. This is a psychological thriller full of toxicity, jealousy and revenge. This book will reel you right in and have you literally shouting at the book. I highly recommend this book.
My thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and SE Lynes for the opportunity to read and review . My review is my own honest opinion.

Oh, the drama, drama, drama.
Wasn't a fan of the overly casual prose, even outside of dialogue. "Pass-agg, aggro, obvs"
That twist was extraordinary though.
Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher, for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was brilliant! Even though I figured out the plot twist pretty early on, it didn’t make reading it any less amazing. The ending was so satisfying in more than 1 way! The only complaint I have is I’m American so I didn’t understand all of the slang but that’s my problem, not the books. Great read, definitely a new fan of S.E. Lynes! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this pre-release in exchange for my honest review!
