The only thing bad about this book is that I’ve finally finished the last book in my Simone St. James catalog.

Spooky, dramatic, and a lil bit sexy. Ghosts, tall men, and great build up. What more could you ask for!?!?

Set in post-WWI England in a manor house with a ghost of a girl who died under mysterious circumstances. I enjoyed the story/mystery itself but the paranormal was a bit more background than I wanted and less creepy. Still will read anything Simone St. James writes though.

This book was pretty predictable, and St. James' other books are so much better than this one.

Simone St.James can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned. I've now read everything currently published, and I can't wait for more. I listened to this on audio, and the narrator was fantastic.

LOST AMONG THE LIVING is another one of those well done books about the aftermath of WWI. It is hard to classify this book as it has elements of the supernatural, romance, mystery and intrigue. Joanna "Jo" is just one of a host of characters who is truly lost among the living. her husband Alex is MIA and as such she cannot receive a window's pension or remarry. She is forced to take a job as paid companion to Alex's aunt Dottie, who has lost a mad daughter to suicide and her son to morphine and pain due to his war injuries. When staying at the family's country estate, Jo realizes that all is not as it seems in this idyllic spot. When things can't seem to get much worse, a character reappears who had been presumed dead. Then other assumptions of events and motives get called into question and the monstrosities of human emotion play out in rapid succession. This story does well with some elements and others one must suspend skepticism to believe. All in all a well-paced read and one that drew this reader in and kept her turning the pages.

This novel has many elements that appeal to me - WWII, missing persons, murder mysteries, crazy people, dysfunctional families, unnamed illnesses... But so many of those things aren't what they seem.

Unlike another book I read recently, I like that this book promises the paranormal and delivers. It doesn't shy away from it by finding scientific explanations. Even most of the unlikable characters have good (if misguided) intentions. Still, there were a few characters I couldn't make my mind up about at the end and that may have left me more unsettled than the haunting.

I read a lot of WWII stories so it was refreshing to read something with a different angle.

The only historical fiction I would read without a recommendation, another ghost-y good time by Simone St. James.

This book started off slow. And I figured out the some of the twists and turns before they were revealed. But I still enjoyed the book.

Jo Manders is neither a wife or a widow after her husband's plane goes down in WWI. He hasn't been found dead or alive. With nothing to do, Jo works as an assistant for her husband's aunt, Dottie Forsyth.

The two have been tracking but return to the family homestead before Dottie's son Martin is set to return home. The Forsyth family has secrets and some in town think are cursed. Their daughter, Frances, died taking her own life years ago. The ghost of a man who is said to have died in the woods near the home is said to haunt the area.

As Jo learns more about the family she married into she becomes determined to find out what really happened to Frances.

While I've not read much set in this time period, I felt like I was watching the plot take place right along with the main character. This is the second book I've read by this author and am interested in reading more.
