This series is my dirty vice. It's fun, the good guys win, and the main character has a hot love interest, oh, hot and RICH love interest. It'll never be classic literature, but it sure is fun to read!

I read the first three In Death books and this was hands down my favorite. In the first two books both Eve and Roarke were out of character too often and then finally settled down into a good characterization in this book, which I greatly appreciated.
I was disappointed that I had figured out whodunnit at the first introduction of that particular character.
I might read more in this series one day, but it's a huge series to commit to and I have so many other books on my TBR list that I'd rather read first!

Com o terceiro livro da série "Mortal" (Fama Mortal) voltamos a focar-nos na vida da agente da polícia de Nova Iorque, Eve Dallas.
Neste livro temos, como sempre, mais um mistério para resolver e é um mistério que tem contornos muito pessoais para Eve: a sua amiga Mavis é acusada do homicídio de uma modelo muito conhecida, chamada Pandora. Eve terá de fazer tudo para ilibar a amiga enquanto tenta manter-se imparcial. Ao mesmo tempo, tem de lidar com o seu iminente casamento com Roarke, o milionário que ama e com recordações da sua infância, que começam a regressar na forma de pesadelos.
Gostei bastante desta leitura. É, maioritariamente, um livro de Suspense romântico porque uma das componentes essenciais da série é a vida romântica de Eve, mas mesmo assim, Robb conseguiu dar protagonismo suficiente ao mistério que envolve supermodelos, drogas feitas com plantas experimentais e corrupção.
Como nos livros anteriores, o mundo futurista está tão bem inserido na narrativa que o leitor não sente qualquer estranheza ao ler sobre ele. Viagens para outros planetas? Parece plausível. Colónias terrestres? Certamente. Comunicadores que cabem na palma da mão? Nada de especial.
A escrita de Robb é harmoniosa, envolvente e interessante. Apesar de ter havido uma parte lá para o meio que achei um bocado frustrante, porque Eve não andava nem desandava com a resolução do caso, no geral, este livro foi uma leitura muito satisfatória.
Também gostei bastante das mudanças que se estão, lentamente, a operar em Eve. Tem de enfrentar os seus medos relativamente ao casamento e começa a recuperar da amnésia que tem desde os oito anos sobre a sua infância... as revelações deste livro são perturbantes e deixam ao leitor a vontade de saber como irá Eve lidar com tudo o que se passou; será que aprenderá finalmente a pedir ajuda?
A nova personagem, a agente Peabody também me surpreendeu pela positiva. Com o seu humor seco e a sua pose rígida, pareceu-me uma adição interessante ao rol de personagens da série.
Irei certamente ler mais livros da série. Estou a gostar imenso e acho que a autora combina os diversos elementos de forma muito natural e fluída, o que é algo que não acontece assim tanto como desejaríamos. Uma série para continuar.

This was a hard one to listen to. I love this series and the narrator is fantastic! But hearing as Eve remembers some of her past had tears streaming.

Eve's personal and professional life clash once again as another New Yorker is murdered, this time a powerful model, and the prime suspect is not Roarke (this time, at least) but Mavis, Eve's best (?) friend. But this time Eve knows the prime suspect is innocent. The hard part is proving it with all the damning evidence.
Once again Roberts brings reader's back into her future world of crime, where love, lust, and greed continue to rear their heads within basic human nature. In this novel we see more of Eve's and Roarke's dark pasts, we get a more sinister look into the drugs of the future (called Illegals), and we see Eve's sharp mind once again tango with both crime and her love for Roarke and her friends. We also get to see a frankly hilarious-at-times dynamic between Eve and her new tag-along Peabody.
Also, it always fun to guess which of the initially introduced characters end of being the criminal. Because despite what some might say about crime, I believe Roberts indeed demonstrates that murder tends to be closer to home than people expect it.
