This has and always will be one of my favourite books. Snicket's writing style is what I aspire to have, a mix of humor and darkness!

The formula of this series of books is beginning to become very mundane. The premise of new guardians, disguised Count Olaf and all the villains getting away have been the same in each book. There is little that is different and it's beginning to put me off finishing the series. I hope the next book may be at least a bit different.
Finally back to this series and still finding it absolutely hilarious. Glad that Tim Curry is back in the narrator's seat as I just find his energy much better suited to the story than Snicket. Just a really fun series overall despite all the horrible things that happen in it. Even as an adult I love all the little asides and funny definitions for unfamiliar words.
Wealthy blowhards have been delightful antagonists (or antagonist-adjacent) in kid media for eons—and for good reason. They're basically always cartoons. Here, they're just as cartoony as all the other guardians, so they fit right in. This series has good takeaways about bad adults. Sometimes they're evil, sometimes they're spineless, and sometimes they're fully detached from the average human experience due to being rich and absurd. I'll always welcome it. In adult media, it's not as enjoyable because it just reminds me of how bunko the world is with wealth disparity. So I live vicariously through fictional kids because sane youths encountering well-to-dos who live and die by what's in and what's out is outrageously good fun. Such a funny bit. But, again, kind of a legit warning for youngins to never trust people who only care about trends. Also, I've enjoyed the episodic nature of these things, but I'm pretty stoked on the larger and very mysterious story starting to reveal itself in tiny, loud bursts. Hootery ahead!
in this, the 6th installment of a series of unfortunate events, the story starts to get really interesting again and much less formulaic than the first few books.
