What's in. What's out. If it's in it's in. If it's out it's out. And there's nothing we can do about that.

As wildly dramatized this pop culture portrayal is in the world of the Baudelaire's new guardians, I am left curiously convicted by its inclusion in this story. As someone who hopes to live a life set on the inviting of the Kingdom of God into our current reality, I am all too often distracted by "what's in and what's out" and am constantly bogged down by the heavy baggage of competing in social gymnastics to remain relevant & significant in others eyes.

I know the trajectory of the Baudelaire's story is tragic, but this addition of their lives highlights to me the complicit involvement of society in the despairing tale that is the Baudelaire's childhood. We must do better than the In Auction attendees!

This review will probably be replaced by a final review made once I finish the series :^)

* re reading for nostalgia *

We get another villain in this book - Esme Squallor - and she’s the worst.

Ersatz Elevator is…kinda meh??? Mayhaps I got too distracted while I was declutterring.

4.5

During a previous couple of books in this series, I've been growing increasingly bored, but this one pulled me right back into the fabulous weirdness that made me fall in love with "A Series of Unfortunate Events" in the first place.

The characters are great, the humor is there, the mystery, the fun, the excitement are back.

Loved every second of this one. And the audiobook is brilliant, too.

This is one of my favorites. Esme is such a fun character, and the whole elevator situation is downright creepy at times. Good stuff.
