A barely OK for me read that I'm sure others will love.

I wish I could give this more stars, I truly do, but for me this was scraping at being an OK read. Some of that, maybe a fair sized chunk, is due to personal preferences, so please don't let the 1.5 stars put you off. I'd also argue that the film it is based on is not a fairy tale, but - semantics!

Insolent is a very atmospheric, mysterious and intriguing read. It took my a little while to realise it was set in the present day, and not some mythical, in the past, fantasy setting. It was twisty with some wonderful dark elements to the story, but for me it was far too much tell and not enough show. At 37% I still had no real idea what was going on, other than Moira was sort of Sol's captive, and I also hadn't really connected to either character. That won't be an issue, or even noticed, by some readers, since we all look for, and enjoy, different things in our books.

I did dislike that Sol frequently used Spanish phrases that the author made no attempt to translate. OK my kindle allowed me to highlight and find out what it meant - but it totally interrupted the flow of the book.

Whilst I enjoyed what I was reading, and would definitely suggest giving the book (or sample) a try, I was never totally caught up by it. When I put it down, I wasn't thinking about the book and desperate to pick it back up. But that's me and there's no saying you won't love the book like so many others have.

Oh my what better way of retelling this fairytale of Brave than a dark and twisted story. This is the first book by a new arthur for me and boy did she have me flipping pages to see what was happening next and believe me there was plenty to be had.
Moira has been mistreated by her family all her life and has given up hope of ever finding happiness until a stranger comes to town.
Sol has loved her ever since he'd seen her as a lil girl and wants nothing more than to take her away from all the unhappiness in her life, but first he has to take care of her family.
Will they ever find happiness? That's all I'm saying you'll just have to one click it and find out and oh yes there's definitely more to this story and all will be revealed.

Once upon a time, there was a fair maiden used as a bargaining chip by her parents. She was not loved. She was barely tolerated. She was often mistreated.

This is not about her being saved by a prince. This is not about fairy godmothers.

Insolent is the story of a young girl blossoming into the dark temptress she was destined to be. This fairytale is going to defrost your glacial heart in the way inly a decadently dark book can. You will have a mischievous smile and an uncanny desire for...wine.

There are no "happily ever afters" in this story. Well, not the kind you are used to...but I'd say they are definitely happy.

Insolent is the sprinkles on the tasty treat of the Sinister Fairytale Collection. I don't know whether to clap gleefully or question my own sanity...(I went with the gleeful clapping, in case you were wondering.)

I would say enjoy it...but then you might have to question yourself too. Are you up for a little introspection while devouring the darkness in these pages!?! I hope so because it is an adventure I highly recommend you embark on. Just be wary of ...everyone! Oh and insolence is highly recommended.

Insolent was Amazing! This retelling blew my mind, it was nowhere near anything I could have imagined. Insolent is part of The Sinister FairyTale collection and it is Magnificent! Rodriguez was a new author for me and she instantly captured me with her characters! This story is told in the third person and I really enjoyed that, everything flowed smoothly and there was no confusion. I don't often come across books written like this but I feel like this story needed to be told this way. Moira is a phenomenal character, She has endured unimaginable things behind closed door and It's wonderful how she still has her spirt and fight in her all the while keeping herself indifferent to the Devil. The quote "Someone who's demons play well with ours." really hit me with this book. Nothing comes close to describing Moira and Sol like that quote. I loved them so wholeheartedly. I don't want to give the storyline or any aspects of this story away so I won't be going into too much detail. But Sol really gut-punched me! His character appealed to me on so many levels, I loved his "orgins", not only was it a pleasant surprise but I feel that connected me to him. The twists and secrets are blindsiding and heartstopping! The passion and desire is raw and incinerating! One of my favorite points is that Insolent wasn't "Erotic", it didn't need to be. The connection between the character and the plot are so intense and fulfilling that nothing extra was needed. Sinister, Sensual and Savory are the words that come to my mind. Very happy with this read, I finished it in about 3 hours. This retelling was so wonderful and I'm so excited to have found a new author to love. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had only planned to read a couple of books in the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, but after I read K. Webster’s Cold Queen and loved it so much, I got sucked into wanting to read the other re-tellings too. The pretty covers might have had something to do with it as well — I just can’t help myself when it comes to a beautiful cover! Anyway, Insolent is my second book in the series and I was excited to get into it because I love Merida from Brave, she’s totally fierce and independent and I was curious to see what Ms. Rodriguez would do with her and how she would change her story up. I think that Insolent is a good addition to this collection, but it did take a little getting used to. It was told from third person which I don’t have a problem with, but I had a problem connecting fully to Moira and Sol.

Insolent was just a different book, it kind of felt like it was taking place in Merida’s time, but it was actually set in modern times. I loved Moira and Sol and their romance, they were a good couple that complemented each other perfectly. If you’re also reading this collection or you want a Merida re-telling, I’d say go ahead and try Insolent out, it’s a unique story and it will definitely be a new experience for you.

This collection just keeps getting better with each release.
Our favorite fairytales, reworked to our dark little hearts delight?
Amazing.

Insolent is no different than the others in the collection.
Each time, I’m caught by surprise with how good it really is.
Everyone knows it’s hard to take a masterpiece and make it your own, but they really are succeeding.

I have to say this one was quite interesting. Intense, suspenseful, mind blowing, different, not a fairy tale I would want to be in. This is a dark and twisted take on Brave. It is the story of Moira and Sol. Moira is a girl that grew up in a wealthy family but not a great family. She did have issues living in this family. She wasn't exactly happy. She was the only girl living with three brothers. The oldest brother being the one that hated her the most. She was abused, neglected and locked away. Until the night that a male is suppose to be picked for her to marry. But something happens that night that changes the rest of her life.
Sol is either the devil or an angel. He intervenes in her life and saves her from the evil confines of her family. But is he really saving her? Moira goes on quite the journey. She is torn with what she is now feeling.
This book has plenty of mystery, secrets and lies. This was an amazing retelling of the Fairy Tale Brave. This one is full of blood, gore and angst. Quite the read from beginning to end. A great addition to the series.

I loved these characters and the way they come together. The path of this story is so unusual and I ate up every bit of it. LOVED THIS!

There are only a few books that leave me breathless, this is one of them. Cynthia's retelling of this tale will take you on such a journey, where the Heroine becomes stronger with each turn of the page, where the Villain becomes a man you could fall for (or at least if you are me or like me) and where the strength of their own convictions create this amazing chemistry that you have no idea what the reaction of that will lead them too.

It's a brilliant, action-packed, keep you guessing until the very end tale that when I finished I wanted more.
