Juniper Lemon ou la stratégie du bonheur by Julie Israel

A heartbreaking-yet-heartwarming book about grief + family + growing as a person after a tragedy. The mystery storyline about Juniper trying to find “You” is really engaging too!

My biggest complaint is that the secondary characters didn’t feel quite well-developed enough. I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if the friend group felt more lifelike and complex. They sometimes felt like tools for Juniper’s character development (which is interesting because a portion of the storyline is about Juniper realizing she CAN’T just use her friends as tools to help her move on from her sister’s death).

I loved this so much because lately contemporary YA has been falling very very short for me. I was worried that I've finally grown out of it and that I needed to move on to bigger things. BUT this book brought me back to how I felt reading contemporary YA in high school. It felt refreshing.

This book sums up how confusing high school and grief can be. Seeing Juniper's struggles was really challenging, but very rewarding.

I have some concerns about the romance that was present and some of the red flags the male interest showed. I hope in the sequel he seeks out therapy and works through some of the challenges he has faced.

I read this book for the Book-Tube-athon, and while I did extend a few days over I did manage to complete the challenge of reading it entirely outdoors! What a fun initiative: definitely made reading this book more of a treat. I loved this book - it was executed so well and I really enjoyed all of the plots and subplots. I'm really glad I picked this up for the BTAT because I'm not sure I would have read it otherwise. Great story, fun characters, simple charm!
