What is it about overly-long fantasy books where nothing at all happens for 300 pages, then everything goes off the rails and you can't stop reading?

Good thing what's going on in the first 300 pages is good old-fashioned "Ugh! My parents don't understand me!" angst. And lesbian crushes. And ectoplasm.

Okay wow, this book was insanely crazy. It's so much better than book 1, and my love for Ida has only intensified. I'm kind of sad that there's only one book left in this series it's so well written. However, I'm ready to know what'll happen and I can't wait.
