This is fascinating and extremely worldly in its understanding of the body and ways in which different people through time have used, worked on and displayed the body and it’s parts. However, very dry. Read in 10 page increments

Good writing and will probably provide you with everything you ever wanted to know about how medieval people viewed the human body. To be perfectly honest, it provided more information about this topic then I actually wanted to know and I laughed out loud at the author's insistence at the end that they had just skimmed the surface. So I guess if you're wanting an introduction to this topic, check it out. Apparently if you want even more on the topic, there's still plenty out there after you read this. For myself, I'm good.

If you're looking for serious scholarship--this is not the book for you. If you're looking for a totally fluff pop history book-- this is not the book for you. If the title doesn't sound fascinating-- this is not the book for you.

If you made it past those gauntlets, then this is a wonderful easy-to-read and beautifully illustrated book filled with curious tidbits I will be coming back to.
