It was super slow at the beginning, but it continued to pick up a bit. Overall, the story attempt was there I just think it wasnt executed to its full potential. I also found the family relations to be extremely confusing because there wasn't a family tree or at least an explanation to the relations of the characters, so I was left to figure it out. The ending in my opinion could have been written so much better, I found it felt like a cliffhanger or even like Dimaline is planning to write a sequel for it.

This was the best werewolf story I’ve heard in a while. Creative and full of heart. While I had trouble getting into it at the beginning, I didn’t want it to end. This book does a great job at unfolding and culminating in a compelling conclusion. I like books with a big finish and this stuck the landing. If you like creature features this is a good read.

such an amazing storyteller - and like all great story tellers not only is the story interesting and captivating and you love the characters but there is under it all a bigger story/narrative - in this one that talks of land, ancestors/history, colonialism and self determination.

I will admit I much preferred The Marrow Thieves, but this was still a good book. Dark and gritty (and also confusing) but certainly compelling.
