Awesome!

I had mixed feelings before starting this book because it's an MM romance, then I thought, hello, it's Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy so it can't be less than awesome and I was right! If you take away that's this is a man-man relationship, this book tells a beautiful love story. Do you even say beautiful love story it it's two men? I still think it is! Wes is a definitive gay guy. He had his uncertainties about his sexuality during his teens but he figured it out and he's now defined in his role and he knows how to handle prejudice and slurs about his sexuality. He's also a hockey player, soon to go pro, as soon as he graduates. He always coaches youngsters at a summer hockey camp and there he met Jamie. They were 13 when they met. Wes had strong feelings for Jamie until one day when they were 18, something happened and Wes broke friendship, went away, never returned calls or texts. Fast forward 4 years later, they are both in the brink of going pro in the NHL, in the last championship of their respective colleges. Jamie's team loses, Wes's team wins. But the brief encounter serves to light up that fire again, and Wes strategizes another meet at the summer camp he stayed away from for 4 years.

Meanwhile, Jamie is ending a friendship with benefits relation and battling feelings for Wes. I have to say, reading about Jamie's awakening sexuality for men was very absorbing and read so real. Wes was so careful to guide Jamie toward their sexual activity, all the time feeling guilty of maybe misguiding Jamie, possibly perverting him, but what he was doing was bringing Jamie to his true self and to real love.

Another great sub-plot here was the issue of gay men in professional sports. You never realize all the heartache and shame a gay man has to face even at the top of his career, be it sports or whatever. In the end, you realize they're good guys with a lot of talent, and the prejudice is just wrong.

As I said, awesome read!
