Good insight and very validating. I think it fills in many holes and is a good first step for people looking to put their trauma in perspective.

This well rounded, well informed, and easy to read. I've watched a few videos by Kati on trauma, dissociation, and ptsd before and knew it was helpful to me. Kati has a way of speaking to make me comfortable in facing my past trauma and learning more about my triggers and how I can heal. I learned a lot from this book and it helped me feel less alone about my past experiences and responses.

This book is a great introduction for anyone who wants to understand trauma and how it may affect them. As a fan of the work of Bessel van der Kolk, I found it had nothing new to offer me as a reader, but for those who find The Body Keeps the Score too intensive or technical, you will probably really enjoy this book as a lighter alternative.

Very accessible - gives a lot of useful info without any medical jargon or fluff. However, does lack a lens of intersectionality and can be triggering in its own right - definitely look into content warnings before reading. If you have triggers you’re concerned about I’d recommend not reading the quotes, which are in little blurbs off to the side. They often go into detail about a person’s experience with trauma.
Graphic: Mental illness and Pandemic/Epidemic
Moderate: Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Police brutality, Self harm, Adult/minor relationship, Car accident, Alcohol, Addiction, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, Alcoholism, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Death of parent, Suicide, Child abuse, Death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Eating disorder, Emotional abuse, Panic attacks/disorders, Medical trauma, and Medical content

Went over basics of different types of trauma. I can't really recommend the book because it didn't felt narrow-minded. It lacked intersectional accessibility.
I found it lacked depth and was offensive and actually triggering at times. There was also some information that I would find questionable.
I will refer to Natalie's review (readswithnatalieb):
"Working through any kind of trauma or grief is not the same among people, so it’s finding what’s best for you. This book made me feel like you need to do one thing or another to feel better or learn to work through grief.
I would recommend finding a book written by someone who specializes in trauma if you or someone who know is in need of help."
