If you plan to read this book, be ready for an extremely slow-paced, detailed retelling of everything there is to note about the lives of Russian nobility and soldiers during the Napoleonic wars.

Absolutely boring. A bunch of slave owning pedos live their lives in times of war and peace, while the author periodically takes a sledgehammer to the plot so he can winge about philosophy at a middle school level. I guess for a book written in the 1800s I shouldn't expect much more than that. I wish I would've quit this book after 50 pages, what a waste of time.

Well written but not worth the effort. Tough going. Forgettable. Pretentious. Unlikeable characters. Could use heavy editing.
Not terrible. But just NEVER again!
The last 30/40 pages of intellectual drivel was akin to actual torture.
Nah. It's...just...meh. I'm sorry for this, fellow classics lovers, it's just too much.
