Amazing!! I love LOVE Trish so much! Her books are hauntingly beautiful!

I definitely enjoyed this & will read more by this author. I really liked the female character and the fact that she is the one with the troubled past even though Alex was a bit messed up as well.

The ending tough left me feeling a bit unsatisfied :(

I’ve been looking forward to something new from Trish Doller ever since I read the last sentence of Something Like Normal. It was one of my favorite books from 2012. Her sophomore book Where the Stars Still Shine definitely lived up to my high expectations.

I can’t remember the last time I was so utterly enthralled by a book this quick. Callie’s voice is so clear from page one. You can’t help but feel her heartbreak and loneliness. I loved how real she felt. She had been through some really hard things but she wasn’t completely closed off to these new people that love her. It seems like so often characters that have been through something tragic have these impenetrable walls. Trish Doller finds the perfect balance with Callie. It was refreshing.

The secondary characters were also fabulous. I was a little worried about Alex to begin with. He could easily been a cliche, but he turned out to be so much more. Their relationship was very realistic and heartfelt. I also really adored Callie’s father. His love for Callie shined so brightly.

The setting is spectacular. Tarpon Springs is a real town in Florida and you feel like you’ve visited there all your life while reading. Trish Doller really brings it to life for us.

The writing was just as gorgeous in Where the Stars Still Shine as it was in her first book. This is truly a beautiful story and I can’t recommend it to you guys enough.

THE ENDING! THE ENDING! THE ENDING!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Pěkné. Něžné. Milé. :)

Vsadím 130. vlas z V. sektoru své hlavy, že po tomhle příběhu bude každá a každý chtít, aby mu jiný řekl: "S'AGAPÓ" .. ;)

I loved the concept of this novel. It was interesting to see how everything was turned upside down for someone; to go from one extreme to the next one.

Callie was a very mature character. She was smart, although she was never educated. She was kind-hearted and she had a lot to deal with.

Her mother was a character I loathed from the beginning. How can anyone be so selfish?! Especially when your own little kid is involved?? I did understand why Veronica acted the way she did. But she shouldn't have pulled Callie into it.

Greg was a big contrast to Veronica; he seemed to have done it all right, he has his life under control and he wants to build a relationship with Callie after being withheld from him for so long. Their relationship grows as they have thawed to each other, although neither one really knows how to behave in front of the other one.

The relationship between Callie and Alex was too sweet, too hot for me. It seemed to me like instalove and I'm not a fan of that; but as soon as they got closer to each other I enjoyed reading about their relationship.
I also liked how they weren't all clingy and lovey-dovey; but handled themselves without needing the other one like air for breathing.

The writing was great and I have to admit that I bawled my eyes out during the last thirty or forty pages.

But that was not my kind of ending..
I don't mind open endings when they are appropriate, but this seemed just forced and I didn't really like it.

Sadly this ruined somehow the book a bit for me.

For the past twelve years, Callie's world has revolved around her mother, who abducted her when she was five. Veronica suffers from bipolar disorder, and has perfected the art of living on the run. Her past catches up with her during a routine traffic stop, though, and Veronica's arrest means that Callie is reunited with a father she barely remembers. Greg is thrilled to welcome Callie into the large extended Greek family along the gulf coast of Florida. But twelve years of looking after herself and her mother have made Callie hesitant to trust others. While her cousin Kat has fond memories of the two of them being best friends as toddlers, Callie has never lived in one place long enough to form a real friendship, and they get off to a bumpy start. Callie suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her mother's boyfriend when she was younger, and while she feels a strong attraction to sponge-diver Alex, she has no real concept of where sex fits into a healthy relationship. Complicating matters further, Veronica is out on bail and secretly seeing Callie, making her feel guilty about her new relationships and ever more sure that her mother is not going to be able to manage without her. It's a lot to handle, but Doller portrays the different relationships and Callie's torn loyalties beautifully. The ending manages to be hopeful for all of the characters without tying everything up too neatly. Some fairly graphic sexual scenes make this a story more suitable for high school students.

Trigger warning: child sexual assault

A surprisingly good read for a book that I just got on a whim.

I read Trish's first book Something like Normal and absolutely adored it, so my expectations for this were very high.

So I guess I was expecting more from this. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story, the characters and it was very easy to read but it didn't have that extra something special.
