Psychologically terrifying. A good, short, interesting horror read.

Extremely high "wtf" to page ratio. This girl ain't right.

A brisk, blithely perverse effort that's very aptly described as "unnatural" in its title. Greenhall's prose is stunning, and the character of Elizabeth is a truly indelible literary creation. Would only that Greenhall worked on a larger scale, or were more prolific than it seems he was. As it stands, I look forward to diving into the rest of his body of work over the coming year.

Like if RKO had handed Val Lewton the title "Witch Girl" and subsequently produced an adaptation of Lolita the same way he turned "I Walked with a Zombie" into a riff on Jane Eyre. All credit to Valancourt for uncovering and re-printing this absolute gem. Although, fair warning, do not approach the (frequently - but HEAVILY - implied) perversities within lightly.
