I didn't love the first book (Rule) in this series. I enjoyed Jet (book 2) way more, and I enjoyed this one as well.

I LOVED Cora. She might be one of my favorite female lead characters of all time. I also really enjoyed Rome. I can totally see why Cora was attracted to him. Very much Book-Boyfriend material.

I am not one for extra drama in books, especially when it has to do with a TRUE bad guy. But I think for this book to have that in it, it was handled well. It didn't piss me off, which is a good thing! I also like that they didn't have some huge dramatic fight, where they were on their own for a chunk of the book! So, well done Jay Crownover, and Thank you for doing that!

I do however wish we got to see a little more of their ending, if you know what I mean. I assume we will see it in the next book, but still.

I really enjoyed this story, possibly more than Rule/Shaw. I felt that the emotional difficulties that they had to work through in order to have a relationship read true to life. I think there was the right amount of heat and angst, of promise and roadblocks, to make keep the story engaging. I read it in one sitting in the middle of the night, if that tells you anything.

I really respected the honor and integrity that Rome had. He has always been a stand-up guy and this gave him bonus points in my opinion. It shows that a man can be a badass and edgy and complicated, without sacrificing his morals or breaking the law.

Cora was also a great character to follow around. I think she was a bit livelier and bold than Shaw, which I liked. While Shaw had to grow a bit as a character throughout her plot arc, Cora was ready to go toe-to-toe with any of the men from the start.

Did some of the plot elements veer off and feel a little contrived at times? Sure. But not that it affected the enjoyability of the story at all. It was like a good blend of reality with a hot soap opera.

Oh man,I just love these Marked Men books!! The characters and situations that are involved in these books are so fun and realistic!! The whole emotional spectrum is explored in Rome, and it also gives such a heart-wrenching telling of a soldiers return home, and the hard times they truly face. I really adore the family aspect that this group have, while they may have had less than stellar home lives and biological family - this group of friends act as family should. There is lots of acceptance, humor, and arse-kicking when it is required.
I am always extremely happy when I see that Jay is bringing out a new Marked Men book - please keep them coming Jay - they are just gorgeous books!!
