I liked the art and essays, I just wish they had made the book's dimensions larger - it's so little (purse-sized) and it has art that deserves to be in a large coffee table book.

More style than substance. It starts with an interesting essay from Guinevere de la Mare about the roots of her love for reading, but the other three essays included are all already available online, as is some (most?) of the art.

It is a pretty little book and would make a good stocking filler for a book lover, but it's not really a book to hang on to. I'll be passing it on to one of my reading buddies, and I expect she will do the same once she's read it.

Book #82 Read in 2017
I'd Rather Be Reading by Guinevere De La Mare

This is a great gift for readers. It includes essays about reading, artwork about reading and quotes about reading. It was good, quick read. I borrowed this book from the public library.

It's somewhat ironic that this is essentially a picture book.

This was a nice read.

I liked the art and it was very encouraging towards me doing lots more reading in 2022.

I especially thought the small mini-bookshelf (the size of someone's finger) was really cool!

Would recommend for fellow book lovers!

Misleading summary. If you like essay collections, this only contains three (one being a list of favorite books from Ann Patchett’s blog, with permission, and the third being a short list of ways to read more, all advice that boils down to “read what makes you happy”).

I love Patchett, but hard pass on this “compendium of essays” and its collection of pretty-but-forgettable illustrations.
