Definitely NOT the best book to listen to as an audiobook - I had no idea what was going on in the plot most of the time, but it seemed okay. I just need to get better at paying attention. Will reread later!

If you like character driven books you will probably really enjoy this book. There isn't a ton of plot, but the people you meet while reading the book are fairly interesting. I vastly prefer plot driven books, so this one kind of dragged for me. With the tv show coming out I thought the book was going to be an exciting adventure across the United States where we meet 'old gods' (i.e. norse gods, greek gods, etc.) and also the 'new gods' (god of technology, media, etc.). It was kind of that, except for the exciting part. The main character is always in the dark (which makes the reader always in the dark), but he also seems to not care that much. Also, for all the build up of this huge war/conflict brewing between the old and new gods, I was disappointed in the ending.

American Gods follows Shadow, a man recently released from prison who gets a strange offer from someone called Mr. Wednesday and we watch as he’s swept into a world where old gods struggle against the rise of new ones and so much more.

The characters were so vastly interesting and I really liked the world that Neil has created. This book was confusing at times and sometimes slow, but the characters and the world made up for it, so much.

I look forward to reading more of his work!
