Soft DNF at 54%, hopefully I can get back into this, started strong but I just lost access to it, so I will be finishing it sooner than later
Sue Lynn Tan’s writing is so beautiful and descriptive. I love the complex world building she creates. The Chinese mythology was beautiful and fascinating to read.
Although this book is set within the same world as Daughter of the moon goddess it can be read as a standalone. The dynamic between the fmc and mmc is fiery slow burn romance.

This one really left me wanting. I don’t particularly think this should be being marketed as a romance first either.

This was just fine. I have nothing too negative to say and objectively it’s a pretty good book. It’s an enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance, an adventure in a lot of ways, fast-paced (definitely an advantage for a lot of readers) and reads quickly. It just did not make a lasting impression. It did nothing that would differentiate it from all others. Unfortunately all Sue Lynn Tan books seem to fall into that category for me.
4.5 stars - I love how Sue Lynn Tan writes yearning, it makes you ache for the characters!

I loved the original duology's world that this book revisits. Again, the world building is tremendous and her writing beautiful. the mfl is strong and I like her relationships with most the characters. Though the book's insta-love is explained by a main plot twist reveal, it still feels a little much. But that just may be my dislike of that particular trope showing. The pacing was a little off at times but still a great read for me.

I liked the idea of this but it just didn’t work for me. There’s a big plot twist that takes place about three quarters of the way through and makes the first part of the book make way more sense, but by then I didn’t care about the story or the characters anymore.
Also the narrator of the audiobook was horrible - sorry
