Wow....I've seen the movie a thousand times, but just finished the book for the first time. It was surprisingly different from the movie. This is definitely one I'm glad I read AFTER the movie so that just when you think you know what's going to happen or who's doing what...nope! You're way off! I love this book as much as the movie and will keep watching the movie and rereading the book til my face is the shade of the light blue.

I absolutely loved this book and was sad it was over. The movie does not do the book justice even though it is very good in it's own right.

I have friends currently reading the book, so I don't want to say too much and spoil the read.
What I will say is that while this story is certainly the story of three very different women and a "Clandestine project that will put them all at risk," I would also describe it as a story of what women can accomplish through quiet bravery; a story of how women would tackle a devastating problem with peace, poise, and cleverness.
The book manages to address a very heavy issue (racism in the South) with charm and humour. I would find myself tearing up at a story of injustice only to end up giggling.
I loved this book, I thought it was beautifully written, cleverly executed (especially Minny's final addition to the project), and true to the issue it was portraying without being depressing.
And I really appreciated the end, which was real and believable but happy.
I definitely recommend this book!! It goes on my favorite list!

Wow LOVED this book! An all time favorite! So moving! I'm in mourning that it's over!

Great read.

I really loved this book. It reminded me of the true nature of women good and bad.

I loved this book! I would have recommended it for my book club, but it is not out in paperback yet. Told through the eyes of several key characters, the story revolves around the not-yet evolving state of racism in the south during the 1960's. I saw it as what happens when bullies are perceived to have extraordinary power, and too many people feel like if it ain't broke don't fix it. Eventually, a small group finds the courage, confidence, and support to make their own statement, fearing for their safety all the while. I would recommend this book to almost anyone: it is an easy read, well-written, thoughtful and thought-provoking.
