Trash fan girl book. Really enjoyed this as a former fan girl.
btw listening to the audiobook version of ya novels i know i will probably not enjoy and making fun of them is my new favorite hobby. this book feels like it's trying to be jennifer's body or heathers without being nearly as compelling or fun as either of them. tries to critique fan culture without really actually doing that and also tries to be dark and edgy by making jokes about fat people and gay people mainly. i think it was trying to be satirical with these jokes but, like, it never works because the satire never clicks because there's not really any actual critiques being made about these things and the way these people are treated! overall... i think very reflective of, like, mid-2010s fan culture in the worst possible ways and i don't even think in the way that the author intended it to be either!
This book is so good. Somebody, I'm begging you, make the movie.
I love how this book takes the concept of fandom/fangirls and amplifies it by a thousand. As a total fangirl (of both books and boy bands) I fell in love with the relate-ability of these characters.
Also, that ending. ???!?!?!?!!!!!?!?!?! Best ending ever. I did NOT see it coming! Absolutely hilarious and incredible. It's very clear that Goldy thought of every little detail when writing.
Is it okay to call myself a Stepur?

Giving this book 5 stars is like giving a bag of M&M's 5 stars. It doesn't always have to be gourmet to be incredibly addicting and satisfying. I couldn't put it down!
If you read Fangirl and thought it was too saccharine so as to be real, this is a darker, grittier look at fandom. It's about your idols and who they are, or aren't, and fandom, and the lengths people are willing to go to. I laughed out loud at moments, I nodded at some, and I rolled my eyes at others. It's a black humor look at the sometimes obsessive, sometimes comforting, sometimes fantastic world that is fandom.
There were a few lines a dialogue that were so dated and out of place it wasn’t even comical. Besides those, the writing was enjoyable and the plot was well done! The characters were pretty caricature-y but it was tolerable lol. There were parts that I thought I only enjoyed or could stand to keep reading though because I was once a boyband fan girl. I’m curious how someone who’s never been a “fangirl” would feel about this book. Overall pretty strong for a YA novel!

I didn’t hate Kill the Boy Band, but I didn’t exactly like it either. Honestly it was just kind of “meh” and forgettable. It’s just not exactly my cup of tea, considering that I mostly read dark fantasies.
I wanted a light-hearted read in between some heavier books, and this definitely fell into that category. Unfortunately the writing seemed very underdeveloped and it felt like I was reading fanfiction or something that you’d find on wattpad. All of the characters were aggravating and childishbut they’re also like 14 years old and obsessed with a boy band, so maybe that’s why? and I didn’t care for a single one of them. I’d expected this to be a hilarious book making fun of the topic, but there wasn’t anything even remotely funny about it. It was kind of cringey, but then again, there are actual crazy fans out there like this in the world.
I will admit that it was very fast paced and I liked how things turned out in the end. And the whole concept of the story was pretty unique, so the author gets pointers for that at least.
