Marking down as I love these series but I feel like the ending was really rushed, barely mentions what happens after the explosion, would have been perfect for Luc and Ava to sort thing but but yet again they haven’t got together, probably so that there is enough for another book! But I will read the next one and the crimes are always very well described so can’t rate any lower :)

Like normal, Helen Fields has written a spectacularly gruesome book. There were some scenes in this book that made me cringe it was that gruesome. That doesn’t happen often.
Luc Callanach and Ava Turner’s chemistry hits the highest point in this book, and it broke my heart at the end. I obviously don’t read these books for the romance, but I have been rooting for these two since the beginning. I’m glad they have their moment.
This book was written well, with you second guessing yourself throughout the whole book. I had one guess throughout the whole book was the suicide serial killer. Turns out I was right, but I did doubt myself continuously thanks to Fields superb writing style. As for the killing of the two men connected to Callanach, I would not have guessed that one at all. It didn’t even cross my mind.
I’m so excited to see where the series is going, especially with how this book ended. I just hope it doesn’t go miles away from the first 5 books. They have been consistent, and have all been fantastic reads.

A million thanks to Avon Books UK for allowing me to read Perfect Crime in exchange for review. I am already counting down to Perfect Dark and this one hasn’t even been published yet!
This series is amazing and continues to impress me. Somehow they are unique and the serial killers are equally terrifying yet all completely motivated by different things. I also will never tire of picturing DI Callanach without a shirt.
DI Callanach and DCI Turner are so good at their jobs and their relationship definitely enters into the plot of this book more than it has before. Their friendship is so deep, they really look out for each other and help each other and I like the connection.
I think this one in particular, the fifth book in the series, relies more on past events than some of the others. You could probably still read it as a stand-alone and follow along without trouble, but there are a few things barely touched on that are fully fleshed out previously. I would highly recommend starting with Perfect Prey at least before moving on to this one but if you are going back, do yourself a favour and read them all. You definitely will not regret it.
This series is dark, always has a few chapters with the serial killers point of view, as well as a strong police team with interesting members. DI Callanach and DCI Turner are definitely the main characters but all of the supporting characters are well fleshed out and developed as well which makes a very interesting and fun read.
Available April 18, 2019 I can not recommend this book and this series more.

Another spine-tingling, propulsive addition to the DI Callanach series. I have said it before, and I will say it again, and again, Helen Fields knows how to write a serial killer. Her imagination, when applied to the horrors that people can inflict upon others, knows very few bounds. And yet, she writes characters that are appealing, empathetic, and fully developed.
The MIT team is back and, bolstered by the addition of DI Pax Graham, are ready to investigate the spate of deaths that, on first examination, look like suicides. But are they? And what message is the killer trying to send with these impeccably laid-out deaths? And is someone trying to frame Luc when his father’s former employers both die in very suspicious circumstances? Will Ava trust in her beliefs of his innocence?
Absolutely recommend this series to readers who appreciate a good police procedural, and who like to see characters become more complete with each story.

As the book starts, Stephen Berry is about to jump off the Queensferry Crossing bridge into the River Forth. Struggling with depression and unable to manage his bipolar diagnosis, he feels it is the best thing for everybody to end his life, but a suicide prevention counsellor manages to talk him down. But just a week later, Stephen is found dead at the bottom of a cliff and DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach of Police Scotland are sent in to investigate if he jumped or was pushed.
But when other apparent suicides start happening, including a woman found dead in a bath and a man dead after being electrocuted, Ava and Luc become suspicious and realise they have a serial killer on their hands, one who is targeting suicidal people.
Meanwhile, Luc is in hot water after going to visit Bruce Jenson, a man who used to work with his father, one of two suspects who raped his mother and who may possibly be his father. Jenson is suffering from dementia, so isn't able to give Luc the answers he wants. But just hours after Luc's visit, Jenson is found dead, and although Ava doesn't suspect Luc, the fact he was there means he is naturally under suspicion.
As usual, these books are pretty gruesome - Fields is quite happy to give lots of detail on the victims and what they went through. The police procedure is done really well and feels very realistic. And I absolutely adore the relationships in this book, especially how the friendship between Ava and Luc has developed over the series. I desperately want them to be a couple and I really admire the author for not giving in and doing that too soon.
This is the 5th book in the series featuring DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach, set in Edinburgh. I think these books work well as standalones but I think you'd probably get more enjoyment out of them read in order so you can see the relationships develop. Exciting and thrilling, I can't wait to keep readings this series!

I didn’t like this book as much as I liked book 4. I did like that Ava and Luc’s relationship finally took a big step forward. I didn’t like the suicide and mental illness aspect of the story though.
If suicide or mental illness are triggers for you, this is not the book for you. I struggled to finish this book because of how much the story focuses on these topics.

Perfect crime by Helen Fields is the 5th book in the DI Callanach series, the first that i've read. Its your average police procedural with a love story twist. I was really sucked in by the first chapter, then found the book kind of dull until it picked up for me about half way through. I would give the book 3.5🌟
It begins with Stephen Berry attempting to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge, with the help of a suicide counselor he is convinced to come down. Within a week Berry is found dead at the bottom of Tantallon Castle although it looks like suicide Luc Callanach and Ava Turner are brought in to investigate if he was pushed or jumped. Before they are able to wrap up the investigation more bodies begin to turn up which look like suicides also, or are they just staged and there is a serial killer on the loose?

Twisted is the perfect title for this book.
Steve Cavanagh has fitted so many twists into the story that you are kept you on your toes thought the book.
I want to be very careful with my review so I do not spoil anything for a reader.
Twisted is very good at making you think the story is going in one direct and then it pulls the rug from under your feet. This is even done with the characters. This twist cause me to drop my iPad in surprise.
Top-notch writing, thrilling plot and interesting character. What more do you want in a crime thriller.
My rating for Twisted is 5 out of 5.
