Good info for people like me who literally had no idea. Subtracted a star for it getting really religious in the last 2 chapters. I suggest skipping over those completely .
As with most self help books, you take what makes sense and leave what doesn't. Even though all the God business didn't connect for me, the overall concept of discovering, and respecting, how other people experience and accept love and trying to treat them that way is a solid rule. Don't treat others as you would have them treat you - treat them as THEY want to be treated.
I also don't know about all that "even if he hates you and cheats on you, just love him unconditionally" stuff. I guess that's the fortitude I'm missing from the God portion because, um, no.
The basic premise of the different languages struck a chord as well. It was interesting to be able to further clarify what it is that makes me feel loved. Also, it was only like 200 pages. Anything is fine for 200 pages. :)

There were a couple of good points, the theory itself is interesting, but most of the time it felt like psychology for dummies. I guess it's supposed to be basic. Glad I read it, but the main point of the book could really fit into an article.

Such a simple concept in this book but one that never dawned on me. This book was a great source of insight for me and one that I hope to use in relationships.

I read this book mostly because I was interested in learning what my own love language was. I can see how it could be beneficial in some relationships.
It's good at explaining the general principles that many people find helpful but I don't think they are a miracle solution like it is presented in the book. It can be one helpful insight or tool to use in relationships. There's some Christian ideas in it that you can take or leave depending on your preferences.
I agree with the actual love languages but could completely do without the religious aspects of the book. I don't agree with the simplicity of it all or the lack of discussion regarding attachment. I can see how it would be helpful for some clients.
It was very cool to be able to determine the love language of myself (ACTS OF SERVICE) and the love language of my husband (WORDS OF AFFIRMATION). The book helps you figure out what you give, and what you wish to receive. It definitely opens up a good conversation to strengthen a couple.
