This book was recommended to me by my therapist. It took me six months to read with its wealth of information, not to mention the emotional weight and the discussions that followed each chapter as I talked about it with others. It is a book that has actually changed my life. I found the chapters on emotional flashbacks, facing your inner critic, and your fight/flight/freeze/fawn type incredibly helpful for thinking about the inception and lasting effects of trauma on one's life. The book is further easily readable and emphasizes reading the parts that you are the most interested in, rather than prioritizing going from start to finish like most books in the genre. There are also immensely helpful "tool boxes" at the end of the book with summaries of healthy coping mechanisms.

Normally I read books from page one straight to the end but, admittedly, I've been bouncing around a bit and only reading the relevant chapters which has been a nice change of pace. Everyone should read chapter 5 in particular. I appreciate the author's conversational tone because it didn't feel preachy. He explained things clearly, offered real examples/scenarios, as well as advice and possible “solutions”. This was the first time I had heard of the term “fawning” and it was a huge revelation for me. Highly recommend this book!!

Even if you don’t have a diagnosis of CPTSD but you see yourself in the description of some symptoms, read this book!
It is not an understatement to say that it changed my life.

This book is life-changing. I will be buying a physical copy soon. A lot of the information was hard to hear as I just didn't want to believe certain things took place. The more I listened, the more evident it became that these were things I needed to hear and recognize. I am so grateful this book exists and will be referring back to it often. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is about to embark on or is on their healing journey.
