+ Gave me Süskind's Perfume energy at the start, though that sadly didn't developed as I'd have imagined.
+ The plot parts of the story had some very interesting ideas: exploring how worshippers of a god might react and live post their god dying, the political intrigue, the creepy "golems".

- Sadly most of the plot elements felt underdeveloped. The main political intrigue plot also concluded so quickly, it gave me whiplash. And the resolution was so unsatisfying, with so many things having happened "behind the scenes" and told instead of shown (this is starting to turn into a pet-peeve of mine).
- I didn't expect the amount and level of "witty banter" from people in their 30s and over. What drew me to this novel was the fact, that the characters were supposed to be a bit older that even your typical adult romantasy couple. And don't get me wrong, of course people in their 30s have a sense of humor, which can also border on the juvenile. But with these characters, everyone was just laughing it up 24/7 after witnessing gruesome murders, suicides, being a suspect in a murder investigation of a high political figure ...
- The FMC not being able to believe someone might be interested in "a little gray mouse" like her had me running up walls.
- This one makes me kind of bummed actually, it had quite a lot of promise, but man did it not deliver.

Did someone say fantasy romance?

Something about this just absolutely was not working for me. Nothing objectively wrong. Just did not mesh with the characters and the plot wasn't enough to carry the novel.
