solo lo he terminado por las risas porque madre mía vaya coñazo de personajes y de trama (no hay casi)

With this being my very first Emily McIntire read, I have to applaud her writing. I loved the premise of the book and that she took inspiration and certain aspects from the original fairy tale and twisted it into a spicy romance in the modern day.

The plot was at times a little lacking for me for one I didn't understand how we went from not knowing who James was to suddenly after losing her virginity to him and a couple of orgasms Wendy was instantly inlove.

Apart from the breath play and the VERY subtle hinting towards child abuse, there wasn't really any aspect of it that I would deem it a dark romance.

I also don't know how Hook couldn't see who was the person messing with his business when I picked up on it almost immediately - I'd actually hoped it would be wrong about Schmee but unfortunately all of the signs were there but clearly not obvious enough for our MMC.

I gave this 3/5 stars based on the fact that I didn't enjoy that Wendy fell so hard and so quick that it didn't make sense and also because it's labeled dark romance but was more spice than anything else.

That being said, I look forward to seeing if the rest of the series redeems itself.

this book was EVERYTHING. i loved it so much! (mainly because its a retelling of peter pan and when i tell you im a literal whore for hook from once upon a time. I AM.) and fact james is still morally grey is EVERYTHING. 4/5 stars, so excited for book 2!

Hooked (Never After Series) by Emily McIntire
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Standalone * Peter Pan Retelling * Dual POV * Dark Romance * Villain Gets the Girl * Enemy’s Daughter * Age Gap * Virgin FMC * Mafia * Touch Her and Die * Kidnapping * Torture * Deleting * Asphyxiation * Childhood SA (vague reference) * Secret Identity * BDSM Themes * 397 pages

What an absolutely neat Peter Pan retelling and this time our main character is the villain himself: Hook. He’s one of my favorite villains, so I was hyped going in. Often he’s shown as a bit meek, but here? Oh no. This Hook is morally grey, dangerous, and villainous in the best way. And what I loved most, he stays that way.

The retelling was fabulously done. No magic here, but names, characters, and places are reinvented in a clever contemporary way, and part of the fun is spotting them as they appear.

Hook himself was described so vividly I couldn’t help but picture Killian 'Hook' Jones from "Once Upon a Time". Villainous, dark, but hot enough that I was 'hooked.' (Yes, bad pun, but I had to! 😂)

The spice level sits in the middle. Multiple well-written, creative scenes that add intensity without overshadowing the story. The real drive is Hook’s inner conflict: his thirst for revenge vs. his need for her.

This one is a standalone, but part of the "Never After series" where each book follows a different villain. I don’t think they’re interconnected, but I’ll know for sure once I dive into the next.

The book had me hooked right from the start. I also really liked James and Wendy as characters. You could already sense the plot twist coming, but it was well done. At times it dragged a little for me, but overall it was a very spicy and exciting book.
