I went into The Party with high expectations because Natasha Preston’s books are known for their twists and suspense. While it had moments of intrigue, it fell a bit short for me overall.
The story kicks off with a lot of promise - a group of friends, a wild party, and a night that spirals into chaos. Preston’s setup is solid, creating a tense atmosphere where you know something terrible is about to happen. The suspense kept me engaged initially, and I liked how she explored the dynamics of toxic friendships and hidden secrets.
That said, the pacing dragged in the middle, and some of the characters felt underdeveloped. I had a hard time connecting with them, which made it difficult to fully invest in the stakes. The big reveal was unexpected, but it felt rushed, leaving me with unanswered questions and a sense of incompleteness.
Preston’s writing style is easy to follow, and I appreciate how she captures the voice of her teenage characters. However, I wish there had been more depth to the relationships and a stronger build-up to the climax.
Overall, The Party is a quick and entertaining read, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. If you’re a fan of Bodies Bodies Bodies, it’s worth checking out.
The Party - 2.5/5⭐️

3 stars is probably too generous. I am a big hater of this wattpad style of writing. The flip flop of characters emotions and decisions was annoying. Most of this was annoying to read. I did start getting into the mystery of what was going on which is why I’m going 3 stars, because I didn’t finish it out of spite. However, after finishing it, so many of the things that were thrown in there as part of the mystery and just leave me with more questions the longer I sit here thinking about it as a whole.

I’m not going to lie… This one was a page turner. I don’t think I’ve picked up a book like this in a few weeks. This book was amazing. The set up, the execution. I knew who I suspected by the middle of the book, but the way everything came together was absolutely amazing. Definitely would see myself reading another Natasha Preston book in the near future.

I assumed that a decade of traditional publishing would uplift this author from her wattpad quality writing- I was wrong
teenage boys being cruel isn’t a twist, also… that last line???? hey that doesn’t actually excuse the murder of nearly a dozen people what the fuck
