It always feels weird to rate memoirs, because unless you’re already a fan of them, there’s a high possibility you just won’t like the book because you don’t like them. I like Ali Wong but reading this made me realize I just don’t love her brand of comedy and that’s okay. There were some very funny and heartwarming parts, and the letter at the end by her husband definitely boosted the rating a bit. While I do feel she was sincere and somewhat vulnerable in this book, it did feel a bit surface level. I would have liked to learn more about her as a person. Overall it was a fun time and an easy read

I LOVE Ali Wong. Love love love her. Maybe I went into this book with high expectations because I hadn't mentally separated written humor from stand-up delivery. The book was good, but it is supposed to be sentimental and a letter for her daughters (hence the title) and doesn't have the same "hahah funny" impact as her stand-up does. Enjoyable, an easy read, and I laughed out loud at times.

Ali Wong's humor is not always for me so there are obviously parts of this book that didn't resonate, but I enjoyed her voice a lot. She self deprecates for her jokes but she is actually clearly smart and has her finger on the pulse on a lot of complicated topics like motherhood and racial representation. She's a hard worker who sacrificed much out of love for her passion and her family. It's a nice, funny read about an interesting person that sneaks up on you with heartwarming sentiments. I enjoyed this look into her life, just don't click with her type of humor and it took me out of the book sometimes.
