I really liked this book, but damn was it freaky weird!

The Creeping was both a dishevelled mess and unsatisfying in its attempt to be, well, creepy. The main character comes off flat and irritating as she launches into pages and pages of minuscule details the reader can't even be bothered about. We see into her head but perhaps a little too much as most of the book was the MC's own musings of things around her and less the actual plot. A total dud for me.

What a great book! It's the first one I've read in a long time that I've wanted to re-read.

Can't wait to see more from this author.

Yawn.

The ending of this book was so disappointing. It was unsurprising. It was told, not shown, through evil-villain monologues. And it basically hammered home the uninspiring message that "monsters don't exist". I was expecting some creepy paranormal elements to this book; maybe, y'know, an actual description of a monster, but all I got was boring, stereotypical teenage drama, repetitive, uncreative sleuthing scenes, and the conclusion that "us humans were the monsters all along!" I get that it's a good thing to ensure that teens understand that people do some really horrible things, and that you shouldn't let spooky legends distract you from real evil in the world, but the lack of subtlety with which this message was conveyed was so frustrating. This book felt like more like a PSA than a book towards the end.

Overall, just not great. I was actually intrigued by the beginning, despite the cringey dialogue and the main character's "best friend" who was in actuality a horrible friend, but the ending was just the final straw.

I liked this book... it was ok. It kept me reading and I was interested in the mystery.

But for me, it could have been A LOT scarier and had more of a build to the end. I feel like it just kind of fizzled out instead of being really stellar.

Teen romance was a big component in this book, and like someone else said, it kind of overshadowed the story.

And I guess the killer reveal wasn't very surprising...so that was disappointing.

I wish I had gotten more information and backstory of the Norse settlers and the Native Americans.

I wish we learned more about the "monster" lurking in the forest.

Some of it just seemed implausible and convoluted...especially in the area of the police department.

I don't regret reading it but it wasn't very memorable. Yet despite all that, I'm looking forward to reading her next book! The author is really a lovely person.

Yikes. I was actually really excited to read this book and it was such a disappointment! Stella was honestly so shallow and bitchy for so much of the book, and I felt like had some deeper meaning that she wanted to add to the book that just didn't follow through. I almost DNFd this book after I found out about the killer. I didn't even care about the ending.

When Stella was six years old, she went missing with her friend Jeanie. Stella returned hours later with no memory of what occurred, but Jeanie was never found. Eleven years later, Stella just wants to put her past behind her and have an unforgettable summer. But when a body is found on the anniversary of the night they dissappeared, Stella begins to remember what happened all those years ago.

Initially, I was drawn to this book because of the gorgeous cover. Unfortunately, the story inside this beautiful cover fell short for me. I disliked the majority of the characters except Sam. Stella was beyond annoying and rude, same with Zoey. I also felt that the friendship between Zoey and Stella was exteremely toxic and I didn't like it at all. Stella was always saying how much she loved Zoey and how she would die for her... but it felt more like they were competing against each other half the time and arguing instead. In my opinion, there was also way to much romance that took away from the overall creepiness of the story. I wish that there wasn't as big of a focus on the relationship aspect and more of a focus on what happened to Jeanie. I also felt that there was far too much name calling (ex. slut, lesbo, psycho, schizo) for my liking. I was also able to call the "plot twist" extremely early in the story, which was a major downfall for me because the big reveal was very anticlimactic due to this. Most of the time I was bored with the story and felt that nothing was really happening. Half the time I was just cringing at the dialogue and wanting it to be over... definitely not the book for me.

4/5 ☆ THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME.

It was nothing & yet everything that I expected it would be. There was suspense, love, spooky feels.....I loved it. I have every intention of picking up more books by Alexandra Sirowy in the future.

This book felt like it should have been labeled "college student" rather than teen. The book feels like it was written for the wrong audience. The characters are too young for what the book wanted to achieve. I do know that teens drink and cuss and have sex, but it was often made the inadvertent focal point of the story. This actually could have seriously improved the story if used on a psychological level like the book's catchphrase. It would have made for a great Aha! moment for Stella with Zoey or even Sam. That said, the story had a lush well-created burgeoning fear moving steadily forward until the big reveal. Honestly, by the time the monster was named, it felt like the story had been lost. Instead of being a joy to write it felt like it had become a task and that's why the story finally stopped. That's a very sad thought. I hope I'm wrong. Anyway, I think this story would do better as fiction versus teen fiction and with an age adjustment for most of the characters. Good use of spooky imagery. Foul language in its amount was not cool. Would have been tolerable without "slut" being on every page. Wouldn't recommend to a teen, but maybe an adult.
