Some things in this book felt a little too similar to Kate's story
the whole street kid thing again!?really?!
and I was surprised at how many times I came across a sentence that was clearly missing a word. That being said, I've loved every book that I've read by Ilona Andrews and I enjoyed this one immensely. It's obviously setting up for a longer series which I'm all for. I wish that Julie and Derek had interacted more in this book. I felt starved for those scenes!!!! Even though I know that with Ilona Andrews the build up is always worth it, I would just like to read the next book right now. I'm dying at the fact that they don't have a future release date for the next one at all.

4 stars- but it was almost 4.5. I think part of my problem is I just don't like Julie. She's a bit too Mary Sue for me. I thought the authors did a great job with making Kate work for every bit of her power. And Kate messed up, multiple times. But Julie seems to just get it. She does what she wants when she wants and how she wants, but things work out for her. It's so annoying.

But that aside, it's lovely coming back to this world and seeing it from another standpoint. And there's a lot going on with clan politics that's fascinating. Most of all, there's Derek, and who hasn't loved Derek from book one?

It shows you just how good these authors are because I love Derek and don't care that much for Julie, but at the end of her book I was Team Julie in that fight...

Julie all grown up as a Princess of Shinar is such an unexpected treat and I'm so excited to see this natural extension of her and Derek's early adventures in this new realm where they're both older and wiser and have different baggage from years spent apart. I'm very much looking forward to where their stories lead next.
