Solid thriller!! Some of the twists really shook me, haha. I had a lot of fun reading this one, trying to figure it out. Def check this one out!

A very mid-tier thriller, not amazing but definitely not bad. I am a sucker for a mystery but I feel like all the perspectives and characters are unnecessary and suffer from the fact that all of the characters seem to think in the same tone. It seems not needed to have a diary and 3 other characters when they all speak the same. It feels heavy-handed and contrived in how each of the villains seem to have a morally correct internal monologue, just let them be convinced in their own wickedness and trust us to understand that the characters who are acting and thinking super villainously have the wrong opinions.
I liked some of the relationship building, specially between the lead cop and her partner as well as the domestic drama of her husband with Alzheimer's and the toll that takes on both of them. I also appreciated a lot of the Vancouver mentions.
SPOILER WARNING
The reveal that the erstwhile victim actually planned everything and had everyone fooled and was never in any danger is cool I guess but where did they find the time. Despite a timeline, it feels confusing how all this was set up and while the idea of super genius manipulator effortlessly tricks everyone and controls everything is cool I guess, its doesn't create the most tension.
I do like a happy ending though so thats cool.

3.5. I liked the twist at the end, it just felt like a slow build up.
I did not know what was going to happen THE ENTIRE TIME! I love books like that. I kept thinking I had figured it out and nope another twist. 10/10 would absolutely recommend to anyone who is a mystery lover.
