The Maid's Diary

4.02 AVERAGE

Overall it's a pretty solid book. The saving grace is Detective Mallory Van Alst, as with most of these crime stories I tend to be more interested in the perspective of the investigators and how they deal with the horrors/murders they are involved in, while also trying to find the criminal myself through the knowledge they are gaining during their investigation. Unfortunately, I had a bit of difficulty connecting with the victim of this story, Kit, as the responses in her diary entries always felt a little "off" in her character that pinpointed to her being revengeful/spiteful and someone to mistrust. While I sympathized with her trauma, it was a little more obvious that she would be the expected twist at the end. Otherwise, I still enjoyed how the storyline played out and read through the book as quickly as possible to get to the end to confirm my theories.

OH MY GOSH!!! This was a brilliant Mystery/Thriller. I could not predict the ending and this book will stick with me. Highly recommend!

The Maid’s Diary is a clever whodunit with really well-written shifting points of view that left me super engaged. The unreliable narrator kept me guessing, then second-guessing my guesses LOL.

Worth a read!

Really enjoyed the pacing and writing of this thriller. The switching between characters’ viewpoints was done well and not distracting. The ending was not as satisfying as I’d hoped but still 5 star-worthy.

Pleasantly surprised of how many plot twists this book has. Every chapter I was left in a state of “omg I didn’t see that coming” I think is on my top thrillers read on this year.

Would give 4.5 stars if I could. The changing perspectives, both people and time, were a bit hard to follow initially (when did that become the thing all suspense writers must do by the way? Please give me a well crated linear story told by one person!) But ultimately, the story was a nail biter with some fun twists and turns. Loreth Anne White never disappoints.

This was very gone girlish and I’m not mad about it. It was a little lengthy and repetitive but overall a good read
