Loved it. Would have preferred to give it 4.5 because of one plot that annoyed me, but absolutely loved it and can't wait to get to library to pick up #2 today!

Terrific story telling. I am intrigued by the themes making commentary on today in a way that only extrapolatory fiction can etch out. Humans will find a way, no matter how homogenous they are, to find differences. They will find a way to try and control others and hold onto power. I found the most evil character a bit unbelievable, his total unquestioning embrace of the status quo, but still it was a good read. A good example of where critical thinking is essential for survival, as it honest self reflection and empathy.

Well worth the read. I felt like some places ran just a tad longer than I liked and I found myself skimming a few action sections, but that may be to my own personal reading preference. Overall, it was a great book with fully fleshed out characters and a lot of intrigue. I may be interested to continue on with this series and pick up the prequel Shift next, but if I don't I feel the story is complete and satisfying as it is. Oh, and as a knitter, I got a special joy from the mayor's knitting metaphors in the first of the book. Warmed my little heart.

An excellent start to the series, makes you want to immediately start reading the next book to find out what happens next
