Read Wish You Were Here from the 13th page on in a trance state last night and all my recollections have since fluttered away somewhere, but I remember it being good, very good, except the main character was a little passive and underwhelming, the twist definitely got me, and the ending got... very weird and rabbit hole-y. But overall not bad!
Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this book, the premise made me feel like this was going to be a story that just took place during Covid.
The reality of this book was a different story.
Part 1 - Diana goes on vacation to the Galapagos Islands and her boyfriend has to say home due to his job at the hospital and Covid starting to become an issue. When she gets there the island is on lock down and she ends up getting stuck there for months with no cell service or internet.
She ends up becoming a local and builds relationships. This part of the book was enjoyable.
Part 2 - Diana wakes up in the hospital, she was on a ventilator and almost died from Covid, it turns out she never went to the Galapagos and this was all in her head while she was unconscious. However she believes she was really there. The second part of the book is heavy on her recovery from Covid, the mental toll, the physical toll and her emotional one as well.
While this book was well written and did bring additional perspectives to how Covid impacted different people in the long run it just felt like a depressing trip down memory lane.
On top of that Diana is just not a likeable character, and her revelations that she makes about who she is and who she wants to be feel forced in the end, it didn't feel like a natural progression to me.
Overall I say skip this unless you want to be taken back to the horrors of Covid.

What a great read! Great twist!
But it was eerie to remember all the things we did at the start of covid.
