A member of a tech startup goes missing on their company retreat in Miami. Caitlin is the new hire but unsure what her role actually is... but with a seven figure salary, stocks, and other benefits, how was she to say no?
Executives behaving badly. And there's murder. 🤣 It read almost like a reality show, I was so intrigued but I couldn't really root for anyone. Every character was pretty terrible, constantly making self serving decisions, anything to get ahead. But I guess that's what money can do. 🤷♀️
There were a lot of POVs, which kindof added to the chaos. I found myself mixing up characters, as they didn't have much depth to them.
I did like the commentary surrounding corporate greed and the toxicity of a highly competitive workplace. The CEO was the literal worst.
🎧 The narration by January LaVoy was great. Her voices along with the chaos of this story was thoroughly entertaining.
Thanks Macmillan Audio for the gifted audio copy!

Haha, I don’t know - I liked it! Sometimes I need a not-that-deep book in between the other tearjerkers and great art (last couple ones: This Summer Will Be Different and Colton Gentry’s Third Act, respectively) and this was the perfect palate cleanser. Rich people behaving badly, a not-very-surprising murder mystery plot, no character development (all intentional!!). I think Emma Rosenblum’s writing is funny and perceptive and even a little sexy, and it’s fun for me to live in this awful world she builds (so different than my own for so extremely many reasons, haha) for a little bit. I liked Bad Summer People too and I’ll definitely read her in the future!

At no point did I enjoy reading this book. It had a murder in it yet no mystery? No one cared about the dead body, which I totally get is like a commentary on society but I feel like somebody should care at least like idk legally. There were so many characters and although it switched povs between chapters they all read in the same tone of voice. There wasn't enough variety to keep them apart and I continously had to go, who the heck is that?
It just felt like I read 257 pages and at the end nothing happened.

Bad people doing bad things is something I can always eat up in a book. This is the perfect book to bring on vacation. You’ll devour it and it’ll make you think twice about who you tell your secrets to at work!!!
Moderate: Murder and Drug use

Like in Bad Summer People, Emma Rosenblum profiles #richpeopleproblems, this time in the corporate executive world. Definitely some good laughs at the immense privilege and narcissism the characters display. There are lots of unlikeable characters that are behaving badly and continue to do so. It's light on the "thriller" side, and probably the only reason why it's labeled as a thriller is because there's a murder. But it explores a number of story lines that take away from the narrative drive. Overall, It's a nice light guilty pleasure especially if you hate your job/boss/coworkers/senior executives.
