I read this as it was on my comic book club's to-read list.

This is a monster collection that you're unlikely to get through in one sitting.

Initial thoughts on Spiderverse:
1) Someone was a biiiiiig spider lore fan and wanted to wink at all of it; or
2) one of the writers was an arachnophobe and was like "Fine. But I'm smushing as many spiders as possible"; or
3) one of the writers was like "Fine, but I'm adding vampires. Vampires are cool."

At first I dreaded each time I sat down to continue reading this, as some very good people meet horrible ends - not the quippy fun I was expecting. I suppose that's one way to prune the various incarnations from future comic books! But ultimately I did enjoy this, as I got a happy-ish ending.

A pretty interesting, if underwhelming story compared to the Into the Spider-Verse movie.

By far the best part about this is the short explorations of very different spidermen in very different styles, which don't tie into the main story. That was great. But the main story was very long and not very interesting, very light.

2.5 Apparently, between volumes 2 and 3 of Spider-Gwen, something happened in the Multiverse and I could find out ALL about it in the Spiderverse collection. Cool.
Spider-Gwen's really immaterial to the story so I totally didn't need to read this.

This collection is reallyreallyreally long (600+ pages). Some parts are awesome (great Spider-Man-y dialogue, appearances by Miles Morales, Jessica Drew, and Spider-Gwen, etc.) but after awhile I just didn't care.

"Miles Morales’ quest to repair the Web of Life continues in Spider-Verse #5. This time around, his quest brings some immediate results—and some fantastic news. A fan-favorite spidersona is back once again, and his story is one we’re going to want to hear.

Spider-Man Noir had sacrificed his life during a previous encounter—a moment that haunted Miles to this day. Yet, there are ways for beloved characters to come back, a fact we all know well at this point. Given Noir’s appearance in the latest round of movies, his reappearance is not that surprising—but I’m not going to complain."
