An absolute masterpiece. Dichotomously hilarious and ravaging. I love this book so much.

As far as a World War 2 classic fiction book, it wasn't terrible, but not entirely my cuppa

DID NOT FINISH

A comedy? Really? The only thing I laughed at was that this book somehow has high ratings.

a bit long winded but kept me giggling throughout

I’m sorry but I need a plot and this book barely has one. War is crazy, so is the writing of this book. I get it. I gave it nearly 100 pages and just couldn’t get into it and it’s been clogging up my reading pipeline since. It’s rare that I succumb to a DNF but this book became such a chore to even think about picking up that I just couldn’t do it.  I know some people say this book is hilarious and it’s their all time favorite, but I think if I made it this far and the humor wasn’t enough to keep me going then I can say I tried and it’s just not for me.

I hadn't read Catch-22 in about 13 years, and was shocked to find how differently I'd enjoy it the second time around. Perhaps it is simply a young man's book...though I wasn't a man when I read it, and still consider myself a young man now, to an extent.

Humour and literature rarely mix, and often there is little more infuriating than self-consciously funny fiction. I won't deny that Catch-22 is funny— it is—but unless you are finding it very consistently gut-wrenchingly hilarious, you are going to be irritated by the glib nihilism of it all. "Anarchic". No wonder I hated Gravity's Rainbow. It is strange, then, to be so disappointed by this book while still believing Something Happened is a masterpiece. Maybe because Something Happened is not funny at all, just a moralist portrait of the banality of evil. I wish it were more well known. Anyway, buy this for the smartarse 16 or 17 year old in your life.

It conveys the absurdity of war really well. I thought it was funny too. The storytelling is unique and fitting as it jumps back and forth and the author goes on lengthy tangents and there were multiple times I thought it was misprinted or I misread it because of the repetition. I love how neatly the story came together the continuity and world building is really nice. I have to admit the process of reading it got tiring because the book drags on, it could have been shorter but I can completely understand why that’s intentional. The thing I did dislike is the description of women. Women are just walking asses in this book. I could understand how some of it is intentional and points to gender related injustices through the absurdity but some are not or are in terrible taste. It was not pleasant to read. But all in all I understand the value of this book and it conveys its message expertly.
