This book made me so angry. Rhode is 33 and goes on and on about how old he is and how he’s running out of time to have a wife and kids and all this stuff and it just kills me because that’s not old. When did early thirties become ancient? There was a crack about how he was so old he must still leave voicemails. Like seriously?? He’s not that old. But the entire time he keeps trying to push Nina away because he thinks she shouldn’t want him because of his age but he never once thought to sit down and talk to her about it and decide together what they wanted or didn’t want or could compromise on.

I did love that the cat’s name was Chicken that was adorable.

Edit to add - another reviewer said it perfectly. They kept acting like her 3 month trip to Argentina would mean she was gone forever. And if he played one more season of hockey she couldn’t be with him. All these problems seemed really easy to work through and again like I said already, if they had just talked and worked out some compromises they could have saved the whole ordeal. Like if he’s gone so much for hockey why does it matter if you leave for a trip for 3 months. It’s not like you were planning to move there?!

Rhode is my new favorite book boyfriend from his slutty thigh tatt, dirty mouth and everything in between. The slow burn tension comes to a head in the most spectacular way with a much under appreciated trope of “let’s get it out of our system” These two fought to keep everything casual but couldn’t keep feelings from mixing in. Nina is riddled with anxiety and trying to just exist and meeting Rhode by chance really mixes things up. He takes care of her in more ways than one ;) and this MMC shows her that she’s been dating boys and has now moved on to a man!
I love when books don’t have epic relationships but rather ones that just occur in the normal space we all exist. God this book was amazing. I went from blushing, kicking my feet in the air, fanning myself to full blow crying on an airplane. No this book isn’t sad per se but moments were so sweet and meaningful I couldn’t stop the tears when you get to chapter 32 you’ll understand.
Much like everything in my life I relate it to a Taylor Swift song but this book highlighted the little things like wanting a person’s “mundane Saturdays” and throughout this book it just reminded me of New Years Day. Characters doing the simple things and being there to pick up bottles on New Year’s Day and that’s the most amazing things to read!
I love Meredith’s writing style and cannot wait to jump back into the boundless players series! Such a sweet spicy romance with a little hockey thrown in!

This was a book club selection and I had a lot of hope based on previous hockey romance selections, but this one fell a bit short. There was a lot of redundancy in the storytelling, which was annoying - something would be stated in internal dialogue and then stated again almost, if not verbatim via verbal dialogue. There was a lot of talk about Nina's anxiety, but it felt like checking a box and there was never really any resolution to that aspect of her. The character arcs felt off as well, but I can't quite put my finger on what was off. I really enjoyed the banter among the players and it almost has me interested in future books that focus on Patty Daddy and Cruz, but time will tell. Also, am I the only one worried for Rhode's financial future retiring at 33 and living in Argentina while discovering himself? I get that he has an endorsement, but still. Yikes.

I'm not a big fan of age gap in books, it's not a trope that I enjoy, but this was surprisingly good. I think that it's perfect that not all the focus was on the main characters, because I got to know more about Patty and Cruz, so I'm very excited for their books.
