My 9 year old said “I would give it a 5 out of 5, it’s an awesome book”
I (36) would give it a 3 out of 5. There were some interesting parts for sure - but overall not great. That being said, I’m definitely not the audience.

I was interested to see how the tension mounted when the setting was basically the same and Brian remembered all of his survival lessons from Hatchet. While a new situation was created, it wasn't nearly as harrowing as the first book, and this was full of foreshadowing lines like "Brian will look back on this and wish he hadn't said that." The fear of dying didn't feel as poignant to me, but I am still willing to read the subsequent books in the series.

Not as good as Hatchet but glad they chose it for school. For Tyler's sake
I love both Hatchet and The River, but I actually think this one is a little better-written. It's great to see how Brian has changed after his experience in the first book.
The Hatchet was one the first books i remember reading by myself. Being dyslexic it was a huge achievement so finding and reading the sequel feeled me with huge nostalgia!! Definitely a bit unbelievable that the government want him to go back in but over looking thay it was still very enjoyable and an easy read
