Well, the book lived up to all the hype. It was mesmerizing almost from the start. I won’t criticize pieces like some do because I read for entertainment and this was indeed entertaining!
I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. I saw the original Swedish movie version and enjoyed that a great deal, but I think it colored my enjoyment of the book, which is paced differently, as one would expect. I'm going to make sure to read the next one before seeing the film version. In any event, believe the praise of the Lisbeth Salander character, as she is a rare thing in modern fiction, especially modern crime fiction--a real and complex woman that doesn't conform to stereotypes and isn't a victim.
I'm torn on rating 4 stars on this one. The first 100 pages were tough to get through, but I was told that it would be worth it if I stuck with it. What a disturbing, gripping story once I got into it though! Had to know what was going to happen and was surprised at the eventual outcome. I have the other two books but will probably take a break for a bit lighter reading.

Not bad, had me gripped and made me want to read the others.
Lisbeth Salander is a unique girl with unique researching talents. Her research life peaks when she begins researching journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The 2 of them look into a powerful family and try to discover the events surrounding a girl's disappearance during a family gathering. There are some semi-graphic scenes that may offend some readers. Recommended.
The first chapter is hard to get through. You can still understand and enjoy the book if you skip it. Do not let the first chapter turn you away from reading the rest of the book.
