Half of the time I was I like I get it, they have this all consuming love and will always be tethered to one another. However, I was also like both of you are so fucked up and codependent please separate whatever you see in each other this relationship is not healthy. But, I guess that's kind of the point.

Personally, I found this book difficult to get through. While I would say the story gets interesting at times, it is similar to the feeling of scandalous gossip. I thought it was repetitive, sometimes a bit jumpy in storyline, and it seems like all characters are constantly willing to overlook anything if it means keeping the status quo. There is a small glimmer of hope throughout for the story to go on a different direction, but I also consistently felt the dread of the characters’ choices.

Magnolia just “smacked” BJ while he was in the hospital for overdosing on cocaine that he seemingly took because he was jealous of her having a nice dinner with another guy. (Who Magnolia is dating, btw, not BJ).
I have no desire to continue reading a book where the main characters are acting this immature.

At times, this was so hard to get through because I was so annoyed with Magnolia. Poor Tom England. Poor any boy who she crossed paths with honestly.

I kept forgetting this book is about ADULTS because they act like they’re in high school, but I guess that doesn’t matter.

I’m hoping this is just a case where the first book is meh and the rest of the series is amazing because I truly want to understand the hype. Also, I don’t necessarily think this reminds me of Gossip Girl (for those who say this on TikTok). The only commonalities I recognize is that it’s about rich kid drama, but these aren’t even kids. Definitely dramatic though …
