There were parts of this beyond the politics of the war that were so hard to enjoy. That said, there were a few interactions and characters that I particularly loved (all side characters) like the priest. The ending was fucking brutal, be warned.

The more I read Hemingway, the more I find myself ensnared by his writing. Set in WW1, this story is horrendous, it is raw, and it stings. I cannot recommend it more.

But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.
