Inconsistent (underdeveloped?) characters go through world war I. The story is told from the point of view of a soldier, and while the action scenes are engrossing, the rest is bland and almost numb. And I don't think that's deliberate. Maybe I should just admit that I don't "get" Hemingway and call it a day.

picked this up at second-hand shop. Hemingway’s writing style is insightful to read and different from anything i’ve read before. Some chapters are very slow paced.
When he and his subordinate shot the Srg. for turning away from them, it was one of the more surprising scenes for me. It felt out of character, but it helped ground it to the realities of WWI. The last 10 so pages are so tragic. I found Catherine a strange character from the start

it was Fine? i remember liking it more in high school but this time i just wasn't that invested and i think it could've been a lot shorter

ALSO i'm usually unbothered about writing style, i care more about the plot but i'm not crazy about his writing style, especially because my edition had the alternate endings and stuff which was cool to see at a first, but at a point i was reading the same paragraphs over and over with a few words slightly different and it was making me crazy lmao

some really excellent quotes in here though

The ending was just too brutal for me. and his style of writing is very dry and very detailed. It takes a minute to get a good flow, but once I did I was hooked
