The story consisted of neurotic stream-of-consciousness ramblings and sex fantasies with characters who were neither interesting nor particularly likeable. The narrator certainly had a sense of humor, but her complete lack of self-esteem too often tipped her from self-deprecating but relatable to simply pathetic. The other characters, including Steven and the brother, were poorly developed and off-putting. Really, what kind of guys talk about previous conquests, describing body attributes, in front of a wife/sister/friend or especially a potential girlfriend?

Very short and sweet story. It happens on a boat, on a hot summer, with escales on a costal town and snorkeling. The FMC, Judy, is plus-size, and she is a bit shelf conscious about it, especially with Steven, the MMC, on board on the boat. Steven is Judy's brother's best friend, and she has had a crush on him since forever. She thinks that he doesn't see her, or find her attractive, but he is about to prove her wrong, in a delicious way.
I liked this one but not as much as the second tome, which was a bit sweeter for me.

Gotta say, I wanted more groveling.

As short as this was, I just couldn't get through it.

First, the writing was not great. Sentences like:

You could times his ideal size by seven and still not get where I’m at.

and:

‘Because I’m not exactly known for being contrite?’ he suggests, though the moment he has I know that’s not the case.

The first sentence, while understandable, is just ugly. The second example doesn't even make sense.

The non-stop internal self-deprecating dialog got very old, very fast. Yes, we get it. You're a large woman. We large women often have self-esteem issues. Let's move on. Likewise, you've established that Steven is a big, muscular man, but this makes it sounds like he has fingers the size of Italian sausages:

...his fingers are so massive, and suddenly they’re all over my face.

Really? He brushed your hair back from your face and his fingers were "all over" your face?

That was the last straw for me. I tried to go on, but couldn't.

On the positive side, this is perhaps the longest, most detailed review I've ever written. :/

Absolutely adored this book. I can't believe Ms. Stein had the nerve to "warn" readers that this is too much HER. Doesn't she know that's what we crave? Anyway, this was a really fun, but also emotional, read. And it's quick, so you're not really taking a risk by giving it a try. I love Charlotte Stein's word-nugget-filled stories. If that makes any sense.
