I really enjoyed this one, it was a bit too quick at times, i wanted the backstory to last more and a little bit of mystery but i have high hopes for the series overall so i definitely will keep reading it.

This has great potential; I'll read more probably, but I was more inter6in the magic than the characters.

Please please write another volume 😭

I can definitely see the appeal—I wish so much of this book hadn’t been devoted to “i can’t tell you you just have to listen to me,” which is the worst. It’s got a similar art vibe to The Wicked + the Divine.

while the art is absolutely the most gorgeous art i've ever seen, it doesn't match up to the story in my opinion. everything was so rushed and there were lots of moments where i felt like i had missed something even though it was literally something happening from panel to panel. if the story had been a bit more fleshed out, i think i would have enjoyed this waaaay more. i love the concept, but in this case, there wasn't a lot of execution. i bought this volume but i don't know if i'll buy the next one and maybe just borrow it from my library if i'm feeling like continuing it.

Okay, so this series has my loyalty. Unfortunately it’s more for the art than the story. It might be the rapid developments in the first volume more than anything. So many mysteries that seemed like they would normally last another volume or two were solved relatively early. Or at least they seem to have been?

It’s still pretty great, and I love the fact that everyone is pretty bitchy. Maybe that isn’t for you, but I love when you have some traumatized, unlikeable characters. And boy do they deliver. The characters themselves were a total hit for me.

Now, the art. God, I fucking love the artwork. I could stare at it for days. The coloring and lettering are also absolutely fantastic. It’s very LA. Just the characters styling, to the backgrounds rings very true. In short, I absolutely love it.

I will definitely buy a second volume, and hopefully I’ll be convinced to invest in a third.

Engaging and intriguing. A magical fantasy rooted in family drama with the addition of a brewing war between magical factions. Nina is a extremely interesting and complex character. The gems and magic wasn’t explained extremely well but it seems to be setting up for further explanation in the next volume. I will definitely be continuing this series.
