3,5/5 I feel like this novel wasn't really as horrific as Darcy Coates' other novels I've read, but it was still pretty good, I loved her writing style and her characters as much as I usually do. I especially liked the ending of this story, it was lovely.
I liked this one, although it wasn't one of Coates' best books, in my opinion.
The main character, Daniel, saw so many red flags but he plowed right through them because he was desperate to keep a job and not be homeless again. I get his motivation but when your hackles are repeatedly raised, at some point you have to say to yourself that the cons are outweighing the benefits.
I liked this book but it was much more supernatural than scary and I was looking for more scary. I'll keep reading Coates and hope for a better story next time.

This book is the epitome of telling instead of showing. Daniel did this, Daniel said that, Daniel thought this, Daniel walked there etc etc.
The plot is boring and was severly lacking. There is no real story to be told. It is also frustratingly annoying that everything happened by pure luck of chance. Not once is Daniel the driving force behind causing the unfolding events, he just floats along and is handed the solution by very convenient circumstances. Daniel is the most passive protagonist I have ever read about.
Bran, Annalise and Eliza were sterotypes. The author did absolutley nothing to make them unique which made this book even more boring and pointless. In fact Kyle and Daniel, along with everyone else are just cardboard cutouts.

Wow I loved this. Not as scary as I had expected, but delightful. Sweet, nicely wrapped up, and satisfying. A really nice, fast, fun read!
