I wanted to give this book four stars, but Daniel's stupidity wouldn't allow it.
Our protagonist is a very good guy that is also very dumb. His decisions vexed me so much that I almost couldn't finish the book.
Overall, this is a good story, I recommend if you're willing to froth in anger sometimes.

I loved the way this ended. I’ll be listening again!

This is only my second Darcy Coates novel, but I’m very impressed thus far. The Haunting of Ashburn House was a fantastic story but in my opinion Craven Manor is even better. Here we have another haunting story, but with a twist. All those who reside at Craven Manor are dead, but not all are ghosts. Darcy really set the bar high with this one. I was shocked, enthralled, and I was a little bit angry at times. What a story! It was creepy, it was dark, and I loved every word of it. I can’t imagine her topping this one, but I would love her to prove me wrong.
Sweet story, a quick read. Not quite so scary as humans are more demonized than the supernatural. Saving the book for my kid to read. She likes “horror” with happy endings.

Out of all the Darcy Coates novels I’ve read so far, this might have some of the least interesting characters. The main character, Daniel, is very selfless but also very stupid. This is one of those plots that everything would have been avoided if the characters practiced better communication. But hearing about the history of the manor and the family that lived there was very entertaining, easily the best part. The Kyle subplot felt like a bit of a cop-out, like Coates didn’t want to come up with anything better to push the conflict forward. This book was published a few years into her career but it kind of feels like an early effort, maybe that’s just me, idk. I’m finding with Darcy Coates that her books are a little hit-or-miss to an extent, and what I mean is that so far none of the books have been bad in my opinion and still fun reads, but some are vastly better than others. Oddly enough, her YA effort “Where He Can’t Find You” right now is my favorite from her.
