I’ve been loving this series, but the latest installment in @januarybellromance’s accidental alien brides series meant so much to me as someone who deals with anxiety only kept at bay with meds.

Michelle is one of the Earth women who were married off, without their knowledge, to alien warlords in exchange for tech. Now, she’s without her anxiety meds and her alien husband, Alvez, has used his misunderstanding of romance novels to inspire a kidnapping to make her fall in love. The two are alone on the beach, when something attacks their ship, so now they must stay alive, hopefully discover what happened on this beach to earlier occupants, and also duh fall in love. Alvez is the sweetest cinnamon roll who can and will kick ass to protect his wife. Michelle is a genius badass who is dealing with some demons but damn she does a good job.

Part of an interconnected series that will make more sense in order, but can be read alone. TW kidnapping (both funny misunderstanding and serious childhood), anxiety, panic attacks 18+ and out on kindle unlimited next week!!!

That was an enjoyable read, start to finish! I'm thoroughly invested in this series and eagerly awaiting the rest of the books (even though this one was literally just released early). They were only mentioned a bit in this one but this book got me interested in Tati and Juls' stories as well, although Abby's will be next.

Alvez could almost come off as happy go lucky compared to the other warlords but clearly has more to him than that. Michelle and Alvez have depth to them and actually talk about their feelings (despite Michelle claiming she doesn't know how to - she still manages). I liked Michelle's analytical mind, I liked Alvez' honesty on his own healing journey, I LOVED Lassie, and I loved the mystery aspect of the plot.

I really appreciated the way this book addressed anxiety, especially anxiety rooted in trauma, and the repetitive spirals you can end up in. While some of the details of Michelle's experience may be a little silly (some of the things she said during her loud, overly honest talk as a side effect), the overall experience feels rooted in reality. It was nice to see a character not only realize they need to ask for help but other characters not judging them for their behavior as a result of their mental illness.

I'm also looking forward to Nydo's story in the Roth series that January Bell is beginning. I wasn't sure what to think about the Roth (and pictured them more like greys than the beefcake revealed on the first book's cover lol) but I'm happy to find out!

(PS - they still feel more like a friend group of college roommates over trained space military team though)
